Studio Time - Headphones

Yesterday was a busy day in the studio here at Northwest college.

Our first assignment in Studio Illustration 2 was to mimic as close as we could an image from a professional. The lighting and quality of the light being the key element in this assignment.

All in all I decided to change my composition so that I could have an image for my portfolio. I Flipped the ear-cups to show the audio-technica logos to definitively show the brand of the ear phones.
I chose to photograph a pair of headphones I own. They are the Audio-Technica m50x. The lighting was a black on black with a rim light. There was an obvious fill in the front to light the shadows. This lighting was very difficult and one I do not have much experience with.
I used two lights both angled from behind to give the subject a nice rim light. The challenge was to balance the light intensity from each side. I used a big reflective board with a shiny surface to really kick a fill light and light the shadows. The results took for some fine tuning but slowly the lighting cane together nicely.

I am very happy with the results and cannot wait to post process and add to my portfolio!
